travelling matt / things i never intended to remember

i guess this is a way where you can read what i am doing on the earth when you are not there to know about it or even when you are there and you want to know my perspective on our goings on or whatever or whatever.

right now i am in sara demetra mazria's apartment in brooklyn, playing with sammo the cat and chiquita the chiuahua and waiting for sara to stop talking to the police about her smashed car window and gaping hole where once lay a fully operating ford taurus stereo. what's happened so far?

december 17th colin vince kate arthur erica and i went to horseman's for a good bye breaky b. yum yum yum, sad sad sad. erica and i then proceeded to drive for days and days (4) to portland maine, home of 0 degree weather, piles upon piles of snow, and the welcoming warmth of the kramer home base. mom and dad were cool, cooked us a much needed veggie dinner, asked if i did that half pipe thing when i told them i was a skateboarder. stayed up real late with erica's original homies and brother, where we watched improvisational card games and knotted up some friendship bracelets with breathtaking speed and efficiency. erica told me stories till late late late until i fell asleep. woke up, walked in 3 feet of snow in the back yard/"greenbelt" (as we'd call it in new mexico)/park behind her house, watching bodie (as in miller, the most revered olympic skier of all in the world of the kramer, not swayze the surfer as i excitedly assumed), the most ridiculously gorgeous pup i've ever seen, leap and bound through the mountains of snow, pausing periodically to bury his snout in search of field mice. a real teary departure in the train station, not knowing when in the world we'd get to see eachother again (funny thing is, we're meeting up later today here in new york. . .). leaving her was also the final departure from my life in santa fe of the past few years, entering into the great unknown of my future. dun dun dun! train down to boston, meet up with ariele, cook some food, go to a potluck, meet some people i've apparently got connections to in santa fe, stay up late, walk home, sleep. wake up bright and early the next day, wander over to get some coffee, and meet up with alice. alice and i spend a bit of time catching up, cook some oreo truffles (!!!!), then enter into 3 of the most intense scrabble games ever. the first game, as had always happened in the past, she totally wooped me, beating me by 150 points with long explosive offensive words, opening up the board in every direction, bingoing a few times. the next game i took some scrategical pointers from old mr. beans' playbook, keeping the board tangled up with 2 letter words, small plays, defense defense, making half the board literally unplayable within the first 10 turns. ended up coming down to the wire, dragging on into triple overtime with every play dropping a max of 3 tiles. i squeezed out the win, but not without thouroughly frustrating miss alice. game 3. woah. start off the game with a bingo. second play 25 points. 3rd play. bingo on a triple word score. 4th play, bingo on the triple word score again!. 5th play i drop the ox on top of "joints", x landing on a triple letter score. 6th play i combo the z on a triple letter score for another HUGE point total. at this point its pretty clear the game is over, and i finish off the game with my highest score ever, 489 points! hanging in boston was bigger than scrabble games though, its just hard to find the words the describe how much i missed and love these people, really wishing i had a little more time, but oh well, maybe i'll be back in the spring.

caught a bus down to dc overnight, met an 18 year old homeless kid who wouldn't stop talking, asking people if they had money for drugs, and if they'd ever completed a rubix cube. ended up kicking it with him until we got to new york, where his youth became very obvious in his screams of "holy shit look at this place!" "cigarettes are 8 bucks!" etc etc. he took off in new york, and i went to get my first slice of ny pizza (been vegan the last 5 years, so. . .). a terribly uncomfortable and mostly sleepless 4am ride to dc left me delirious and woozy. ok, tired of this, i'll catch up more later. . .
